What makes Anne&Max so special?
Anne&Max is a living room in the city. Here, our guests are at home at any time of the day. With our carefully chosen and roasted coffee beans, delicious coffees are made by well-trained baristi. With mostly organic, authentic and healthy products, dishes are prepared by the sandwich chefs for breakfast, lunch, high tea and drinks. The hospitable team of real Anne's and Max's makes every guest feel at ease.
What is my input as a franchisee on the concept?
As a franchise entrepreneur at Anne&Max, you are responsible for translating the Anne&Max living room into your city. You do this through local involvement and entrepreneurship. For example, by collaborating with other entrepreneurs in the neighborhood, responding to the needs of your guests, adding special local products and creating a hospitable team of real Anne's and Max's.
What does full franchise mean?
With full franchising, the franchise formula, operations and business format, are subject to conditions and rules in all areas.
How does my influence as a franchisee affect the concept?
For various projects and facets within general business operations, franchisees are involved. There are sounding board groups on HRM, ICT, Menu card development and Communications.
Is there a franchise council or association?
At Anne&Max, we work with a franchise council. In this council, three franchisees represent all franchisees. These representatives are elected by the group.
Is there a periodic consultation structure with franchisees?
Twice a year there is the semi-annual meeting for all franchisees together with the Anne&Max headquarters.
Where do I buy in?
For the Anne&Max products and menu ingredients, there are regular suppliers that are partnered with. Due to the scale of all Anne&Max's purchasing from the same suppliers, this provides benefits to the individual franchisee.
Can I deviate from the menu?
The menu as it appears on the table is fixed for all of Anne&Max's establishments. However, it is possible to add products, such as local beer or regional products. You can promote these on your chalkboards. The products must meet the Anne&Max quality standards and vision on food and drink. There is a total of 5% room for local purchasing.
Startup
Am I being trained?
Yes, once the franchise agreement is signed, and the location is found, the on-the-job training will start. This is a 1 to 1.5 month internship at multiple Anne&Max locations in at least 2 specialties (e.g. bar and waitressing) for hands-on training. This internship starts with the basics and works up to deeper knowledge, such as margin management and productivity on the floor.
How many employees do you need in your facility?
The new team consists of 15 to 20 Anne's and Max's. This in a healthy mix of full-timers - part-timers, with and without experience and a mix of Anne's and Max's.
How do I form the leadership team?
Within the team, talents should be hired who (later) fill the position of Head Barista, Head Sandwich Chef and Head of Service. This A-team are the left and right hands of the franchisee and are responsible for their part and team. These are mandatory positions that must be filled to get and keep quality and knowledge at a high level. Extra attention will also be paid to the A-team during the start-up guidance.
Will my team be trained?
Yes, prior to the opening, several employees may also take internships at existing Anne&Max locations. In addition, various on-floor training sessions are held with the entire new team and extra attention is given to the A-team in the first few weeks. After this, it is up to the franchisee and the A-team to further supervise employees and train new employees.
Will I be counseled on compliance with (hospitality) laws and regulations?
Yes, including in HACCP, Construction, Environmental and Advertising Laws.
How much time is there between signing up as a franchisee and opening the branch?
The average turnaround time is around 8 months.
Do I decide what my Anne&Max will look like?
The new Anne&Max branch will be designed by outside interior designer and stylist using Anne&Max's style guide and matching the property. The concept drawings are shared with the franchise owner for feedback at various stages. We work together toward your Anne&Max.
Finance
How much equity do you need to start as a franchise entrepreneur?
Equity starting at €50,000 gives a good basis and possibilities within Anne&Max. The bank eventually requires 25% - 30% equity of the total investment when applying for financing.
What can my equity consist of?
Equity can consist of subordinated loans such as savings, inheritance or home excess values. If necessary, you can also further supplement the equity with e.g. crowdfunding, through family and friends, etc. Here we can advise you further or put you in contact with franchise entrepreneurs who have (had) a similar situation.
Will I be guided through a financing process?
Yes, you will be supported from the Anne&Max headquarters during the first steps. Furthermore, you can work together with an external advisor during the application at the bank.
Does financing go through a bank of my choice?
Financing is through a bank of your choice. Anne&Max works extensively with ING bank and ABN Amro.
What do I get for the startup fee?
The startup fee is used for the guidance of various processes such as applying for the permits, designing the branch, drafting the legal documents such as the franchise agreement. Furthermore, guidance in forming your Anne&Max team, training leading up to and during the first weeks of opening and active guidance in the first 3 months after startup.
What is the franchise fee used for?
The franchise fee is used to maintain and develop the Anne&Max concept and provide guidance to franchisees.
Which legal form should I choose?
This differs for each situation; the choice is up to the franchisee(s) themselves. An accountant or notary can advise on this.
Am I free to choose my own accountant?
At Anne&Max we work with a permanent accounting firm to ensure that all procedures are the same. This office is also connected to the management output system and the cash register. So that, among other things, there can also be worked with a benchmark and insights for the franchise supervisors in order to work together for the optimal result.
Marketing
What is the communication fee used for?
The communication fee is used for brand support, advertising and (in-store) communication. All the communication fee will be used at the end of the year. Every year Anne&Max publishes to the franchisees what the fee is spent on.
Can I control what communication material I have in my establishment?
A well thought-out communication plan was written from the Anne&Max headquarters. This includes various communication materials. These include materials from the 2% communication fee. These materials are to support the season, theme, holiday, specific products or moment of the day that is being focused on and the materials are mandatory to distribute in the branch. The chalkboards in the establishment can be described as you see fit for additional promotion, local products or local events. Together with Anne&Max's graphic designer, local communication materials can also be created so that everything is always in Anne&Max's style. These are at your own expense.
