Chocolatemakers takes chocolate production to the next level with their commitment to environmental and social sustainability. By working exclusively with cocoa farmers who work organically, without pesticides and in harmony with nature, each chocolate bar contributes to rainforest restoration and land improvement. Organic cocoa farming is very labor intensive. Organic farmers are mentored by farmer cooperatives in organic production methods and quality control. Chocolatemakers pays the farmers a fair price for the cocoa so that they have a livable income.

Each chocolate bar from Chocolatemakers is made by hand, using solar energy, zero-waste methods and packaging that is compostable. The unique flavors of their chocolate is the result of the natural environment, organic growing methods and craftsmanship in their Amsterdam factory.

We have a rotating assortment of Chocolatemakers' chocolate in all of our restaurants with their own story and flavors. These are our favorites:

Tres Hombres milk 40% sea saltis the most sustainable chocolate available! The cocoa beans from the Dominican Republic are transported to Amsterdam by sailing ship the Tres Hombres. After 4 to 6 months at sea, they reach the quay in Amsterdam, completely emission-free  on pure wind power. The Conacado cooperative represents 10,000 small-scale cocoa farmers and has initiated the transition to well-fermented organic cocoa. This milk chocolate enriched with sea salt is perfect for anyone who likes an extra bite.

The dark chocolateLittle Bee-eater Pure 85% is vegan and has a great story. In Sierra Leone, Chocolatemakers works with Village Hope; a cooperative working to reduce poverty in the rural areas of Sierra Leone. The farmers are well-trained to harvest high-quality organic cocoa to earn a steady income. Together they have set up production of the region's first superior quality cocoa! Until now, this region was known for low quality cocoa.

Colombia's Sierra Nevada region, with its unique biodiversity, originally grew coffee, and since the civil war women have been running the CooAgroNevada coffee cooperative. Dependence on coffee has always been a risk and the female farmers sought help to expand their operations. They now grow organic coffee as well as cocoa of an insanely high quality for, among others, the vegan Pure Love pure 65% chocolate with a fruity flavor. 

The best choices for all coffee lovers: Awajún milk 30% coffee. This Peruvian cocoa is grown by the Awajún community along riverbanks in the Amazon rainforest. They are members of the NorAndino cooperative, an organization with about 1,800 cocoa farmers in northern Peru. What makes this chocolate with coffee so special is that part of the cocoa harvest is processed in NorAndino's own chocolate factory. The factory is large and has a modern production line for high-quality organic cocoa mass. In the future, they will also be able to make their own chocolate. For the first timefarmers are becoming chocolate makers themselves!
